A while back i posted a thread saying how the GTA franchise is going the same road as The Elder Scrolls. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but let me state what Oblivion Syndrome is, even though i just made it up and would probably never matter in any universe or dimension or time period, when an old franchise which had made its name during the last gen known and loved, leaps into the next-gen platforms. Now during this transition, certain elements have been cut and the elements remaining have been given more depth. Here's a few examples:1. There are less weapons in GTA IV than in SA. Now there no longer exists heat seeking rockets, different looking guns but pretty much the same inside, etc. Rockstar has removed ''variants'' meaning that the pistol is the only thing like it, and the combat pistol is an upgrade. Also, there is only the UZI, unlike SA wherein you could choose between Tec9 or Uzi, well you get my point.2. A lot of the ''fun'' vehicles are gone, but now Rockstar has made up for it with better handling, and better gun control. And seriously, would YOU drive around Liberty City in a vortex?3. NPC - PC interactions are now a gameplay mechanicand if you wanna know why oblivion was a factor, heres a couple of examples:1. No more crossbows, but marksmanship was improved. 2. No more spears, throwing stars and the like. It was cumbersome and didn't actually dent the enemy much.3. The Combat system has been reworked however, and now it's better than the old ''hit and wish you'd kill it'' method of morrowind. 4. Horses! need i say more?5. Oh yeah, and should i really comment on the whole thing about pauldrons being integrated into the cuirass?on that side note, list all differences for the better that you have observed in GTA IV, and maybe any game that has the Oblivion Syndrome. It is not yet too late to go to your doctor about Oblivion syndrome.Oblivion syndrome is cool, it breathes new life into a franchise like never before. GTA IV has the OBLIVION SYNDROME. Told y ...
I guess when you fail a mission you can just replay it right from your phone where in SA if you failed a mission you would have to drive ALL THE WAY BACK to where the mission started from which of course took a long time. I also like the teleporting taxi's, i dont use it very much but when i dont feel like playing anymore i will take it to the safe house and save, it keeps me from driving all that way just to save.GTA IV has the OBLIVION SYNDROME. I think they just tweaked the game to make it more fun. I think your over analyzing this with your whole OBLIVION SYNDROME theory.

[/QUOTE]Meh. i don't go online much and have since therefore cut out my left eyeball from wasting my free 30 day trial on the stupid starting games. i.e. marvel ultimate alliance and forza 2. Milo66521 is my gamertag good sir, and i would appreciate a friend request rather than a minus on my rep. Lest i stick your tongue on the coldest lampost in this side of hell. Just kidding.

You come out of the hospital, open up the phone and start mission all over again. Therefore, you have to drive from the start. This is the only thing I dislike about GTA IV. Everything else is great.
GTA IV is not without its flaws just like any game but overall one must admit that his is a HUGE step-up from GTA:SA
You see the problem with this argument is that what Oblivion lacked from previous iterations in the TES series, it did NOT make up for elsewhere, the entire system was dumbed down, not just non essential areas.Whereas with GTA IV, everything presented in the game is of extremely high quality, and has a lot of depth. So there isnt 500 weapons? So what... With a game as HUGE as GTA IV why bother giving anyone more than the essentials when it would compromise the quality of other areas of the game? Sure, i'd like a grenade launcher and a butterfly knife, but they make no difference to the gameplay, and if they had included them, that might've been a few less bodies for pedestrians and detracted from the city as a whole.Just because Bethesda decided to ruin not only their own franchise, but Star Trek Legacy and Fallout as well, doesn't mean that Rockstar have.
