GTA IV Whats with the horrible selection ...

GTA IV is without a doubt an insanely awesome feat of game design, but what in the heck were they thinking when they took out all the awesome toys from San Andreas?! While the sandbox of Liberty City is absolutely stunning, I cant tell you how dissapointed I was when I found out all the fun I assumed I was going to have in it with all the old GTA stand by special vehicles (and I assumed, many new ones) is not possible! This is a HUGE blow to the fun factor this game could have had, especially to the multiplayer free roam aspect of the game. All you will see now is 16 people in annihilator helicopters. While they certainly still deserve huge props for the amazing quality of all other aspects of the game, I am just in absolute shock that a creative genius company like Rockstar allowed so many of the awesome toys which are largely responsible for making sandbox style gameplay so fun to be left out. I wouldnt have expected Rockstar to carry over every one, but the choices of special vehicles in the game are downright pathetic compared to San Andreas. Im not going to go into great detail about all the unique vehicles they left out from San Andreas. The list they left out is not trivial, it is huge. Also, there is no military at 6 stars?! What the heck? Every single GTA has had the army come after you at 6 stars, and in every single GTA stealing a tank was one of the most exciting and hair raising experiences in all of gaming that left a smile glued on your face for hours as you drove around pulverizing everything. There arent even any creative new authority vehicles that come after you now that im aware of. I assumed that with no military there of course would be plenty of new riot control vehicles to hijack and play with.I am really dissapointed at the lack of new unique vehicles and the huge cuts they made from all the awesome vehicles from san andreas that had insane potential to play around in with friends online. Not even a russian BMP that one of your Russian bosses smuggled in on a cargo container to help in a gang war? It doesnt take much creative thinking to imagine a way they could have introduced most, if not all of the old unique vehicles. Also, to anyone who uses the argument of ''it was necessary for increased realism''.... please. I am not going to waste my time arguing with someone who thinks that more mundane vehicles and activities in a videogame is more desirable because its closer to reality as opposed to ones which are more exciting and put a giant smile on your face. If they made a decision to make the game dramatically more realistic they have to accept that they made it dramatically less fun at the same time. That is an idiotic and illogical concession in the videogame world unless you are appealing to a simulation crowd. Again, there are thousands of means by which to introduce exotic vehicles which usually wouldnt be found in New York into the game perfectly believably through the story.Another obvious lack-of: no parachutes... I could make a rather large list like this. I really hope Rockstar wasnt as misguided on this issue as they appear to be and has the devious plan to release all the exciting new vehicles that arent in the game as downloadable content. This would be pretty cheap however and clearly a way to make tons of money by leaving out features that should have been in the game in the first place. However if they do this, at least it will unleash the full potential of the game, especially multiplayer. Again, the game is insanely awesome in its other areas of design, but its sad they squandered so much potential when it comes to the lack of unique vehicles. You start out in the Ghetto basically lol. Sweeter cars start opening up as you unlock more of the city. Planes were taken out for the obvious reason ... Planes+NYC=No good. Rockstar gets enough crap, but that wouldn't help their cause at all.I say keep playing through. They said hours 10-20 are where the game starts really opening up, which is true. Since I'm not sure how much you've played I don't want to spoil anything. Just know that the game will keep wowing you the entire way through. So no worries.Edit: Ok NM, if you can get 6 stars then you are far enough in to make the decision. All I can really say is, the game is just unbelievably enormous. I'm sure they had many tough decisions on what to cut. Cars are nice, but honestly if you were in their shoes and had to make room, what would you cut out?I enjoy the car lineup they have, the Hummers impressed me. You're right there's room for more, but we aren't rockstar, and we don't know what's on the disc :)GTA IV Whats with the horrible selection ...
Car line up is great :)also the annihilator sucks for multiplayerYou should continue playing the game so you know what you're talking about :)
Edit: Ok NM, if you can get 6 stars then you are far enough in to make the decision.
thats not true at allgetting six starts is easiest when you first get off the boatall you have to do is try to cross a bridge
I wish they had parachutes so you could jump off buildings and out of choppers.
San Andreas was unbelievably enormous as well. It is not a question of what to cut when all we are discussing is a few special vehicles. No airplanes in NYC is a cop out. Yes, it would get some fall out and I hear what your saying but that would be a laughable bit of controversy (there no controversy there really to begin with unless they made a mission where you fly a plane into a building) compared to the gratuitous violence that has been in the previous grand theft auto's as well as this one.The fact is the game is seriously lacking in fun vehicles other than cars. Size of the game is no excuse as we have seen from san andreas. Controversy is no excuse as we have seen from Rockstar's track record. There is no excuse, even land based special vehicles are majorly lacking comparatively to SA. Again, my guess is that rockstar is going to release special vehicle packs as paid for downloadable content.
That's actually a fair guess...but the PS3 version would really get jacked by that.
