ok i dont need one thats expencive or that has a dvd player cause i have a 360 and ps2 and they do fine. but what im looking at to buy is this http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4810671 the Durabrand 80-Watt Power handling 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System. i want to know is 80 watts good? and will it work good gaming in a small space?looking for surround sound.
To be completely honest, I didn't look at the tech specs but I saw the price and said no. I had a 5.1 system for 2 years that costed $150 and it was fine for that time cause I had a smaller room, however I could always tell a difference between it and my friends systems (which their parents bought :P) Once I moved I bought a $400 system and it's great. So my advice would be to spend a minimum of $150, I mean paying $40 for 5.1 it would probably be horrible and you wouldn't be able to tell notice the whole 'surround' part ;) looking for surround sound.
I have a Pioneer Surround Sound thats made for the 360 and i think its only130 - 150 bucks and i think its great for the pricehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000R08ULE?ie=UTF8%26condition=new%26tag=nextag-vg-mp-20%26creative=380345%26creativeASIN=B000R08ULE%26linkCode=asm its 131 bucks. Check it out.
i dont want an expensive one.
if you don't want an expensive one, then you don't want a good one. You get what you pay for.
Rather than buy some cheap cheap all-in-one set, instead think about getting an average stand alone reciever and start with two decent but cheap speakers, forgo the subwoofer, rear and center channels for now. Then down the road save up a little and get the rear/center channels. Then further down get a subwoofer. The all-in-one surround sound set are typically crap, tinny speakers, an all but worthless sub, and worst of all a poor reciever Its your money but if you slowly build up a system, you'll end up with a better product in the end. Plus with and all-in-one system you are locked into it, something breaks you can't really replace it. If a speaker blows on custom system you replace the speaker not the whole system.
Oh and I just look at the walmart system your looking at. Its not even true 5.1 Look at the line in connection types, it only accepts stereo inputs, and it up mixes to surround. Don't buy it
1 x audio line-in ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ) 2 x audio line-in ( RCA phono x 2 )
A product like this is about as cheap as you could go and get working true surround sound. (But I think its crap and not even worth the hundred)
if you don't want an expensive one, then you don't want a good one. You get what you pay for.
Damn! You beat me to it. I was gonna say the same thing (you get what you pay for).My co-worker said she bought one of those el-cheapo surround sounds at Walmart (I think it was also Durabrand) on black Friday for like $50. She took it back the next day. She said the sound quality wasn't bad, but not great. She said the main thing she hated was that it was just too damn quiet, even at full-volume.Here's my surround sound specs:Sony 5.1 500W Receiver, no HDMI though :(
2 MTX 3-way Towers each w/10'' Subwoofer
Sony Center Chanel, dual 5.5'' woofers
2 Sony Satelites, each w/5.5'' woofer
MTX 12'' Powered Floor Sub 150W
MTX 10'' Powered Floor Sub 150WI spent about $850 on all this (plus more money for the protection plan), and I must say that it sounds BEAUTIFUL. Whenever I tell people that I have MTX home-theater equipment, they first laugh at me because they think that I built it myself using MTX's car-stereo equipment. Then when I tell them that MTX makes home-theater products, they get this puzzled look on their face and still think that it probably sounds like crap. Then when I let them listen to it, they constantly apologize for making fun of it. I never knew that MTX home-theater stuff sounded good either until I listened to them at Circuit City. However, I don't think Circuit City sells MTX's tower speakers anymore. I think they only sell the DJ speakers now, which sound like crap. Having two powered floor-subs really makes a huge difference. When things blow up when I'm playing COD4, things REALLY blow up. It's just an amazing feeling and sound. The whole point of this story is that if you want a great surround sound, you're gonna have to shell out hundreds of dollars. If you want a decent surround sound, you're gonna have to shell out a couple hundred dollars. And if you want anything less, well then you'll get what you pay for.
i have a 70$ system and its GREAT, my parents have a 500$ one and the only difference is that mine doesnt have the big sub. playing CoD4 with half volume (23/40) is really loud.
ok so whats the best one thats cheap and doesnt come with a dvd player?
I personally think that you should get the Logitech z5500http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/224%26cl=us,enthese speakers are great!! I have the model below these and they are awsome, inexpensive and give off quality sound with digital inputs and outputs. You can get them on sale at bestbuy for $200GET THESE< YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED
I guess the biggest question is 'What's the max price?' If all you need are some decent speakers for suround, why not PC speakers? Logitech usually sells decent 5.1 for PC's but will definitely work on consoles, TV's, etc.
